Not quite far enough South, IMHO.

As pointed out on main 92L thread, not much convection where I might be seeing a center anyway.

The NOAA mission as well? I did notice a lack of current HDOB info for a plane that should be airborne already.

Today's POD for tomorrow is almost an hour late.

Don't know if that means anything.

NOAA is out of Barbados, so if they are flying, they would not take off for a little while yet

POD showed a 1500 (actually, 15OO) departure time. I did see how yesterday's invest took about an hour even getting close to 92L.

Per Chacor's post, that flight was nixed. But they'll investigate a wave very early in the morning...

Are those 10,000 - 14,000 for Upper Level Research?

IIRC, 500 mb is usually ballpark 18,000 feet, so 0 to 14,000 feet would be more low to mid level. I know pressure decreases with a decreasing rate with height, that the surface is ballpark 1000 mb, 850 mb is near 5000 feet, and 500 mb is about 18,000. Those numbers aren't exact, but they are ballpark. Three points, I could stick them in Excel and have it come up with a formula for altitude vs pressure. But I don't think I will.

The Gulf Stream gets up around 40,000 for high level data collection.

Anyone know if the NOAA plane has been tasked to attempt a center fix, or is it strictly doing research? I read a few years back in a book about hurricanes, that had details about the Bret missions, at one time, the NOAA people welcomed NHC tasking, because then the flight was paid for out of a different budget than their research budget. They could still do research, but they also did recon. Wish I could remember the name of the book.

Anyway, just wondering.
