They will do six-hour fixes on it so an AF plane will take off in an hour or two most likely.

That is what I thought, and this plane took off around 3am my time, and it is almost 10am my time now, so the plane should be in the air.

Recon back into the system, so far has found plenty of winds to support 40kts, who knows what theywill find later in the mission.

I'm thinking they will find winds to support 50-60 kt. I see it becoming a hurricane before the Yucatan quite possibly.

Both use the same URL:
http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/data/raw/ur/urnt15.knhc..txt

For Dolly coming in around hh:m2 (hh:02, hh:12 etc), for Cristobal some 1 minute later (overwriting the former). So you have to be fast to fetch the raw HDOB for Dolly.

Both Dolly and Cristóbal come in seperate packages. It's great to have an archive!

I've had to go to the archives a few time due to missing them.

I'd love to fly if they had a civilian ride along program.

I have been a passenger in Galaxy and Starlifters, and even the C-2 Greyhound, never a Hercules.

But the WC-130J, built this century, just looks so much sturdier to me than the thirty year old Orions, which just don't look at sturdy. IIRC, the Orion was based on a 1950s passenger plane, the Electra, which had a less than outstanding safety record for passenger planes of the era. Not exactly the De Havilland Comet or anything, but kind of like the 1970s DC-10, which had an accident rate per passenger mile almost triple the similar L-1011.
