Are we in agreement yet that an eye feature is beginning to form? This is seen pretty easily looking at a visible loop...

From WKRG.com:

Mobile County Commisison Steve Nodine is urging citizens to take all precautions for a major storm that could impact our part of the Gulf Coast late Monday or early Tuesday. Forecasters says Gustav could become a Category 3 storm, Nodine says now is the time to prepare, and for that reason, the Alabama National Guard is being activated. Mobile’s Emergency Operations Center will officially activate Saturday. EMA Director Walt Dickerson is urging citizens to not delay completing preparations for the storm.

Voluntary evacuations from low-lying areas of Mobile County could be issued as early as Saturday. Officials urge citizens to be courteous as long gas lines form. County Commission Dean urges people to check on their elderly neighbors and those still living in trailers as a result of previous storms. Everyone is urged to learn the location of the nearest shelter, and Mobile Fire Rescue is asking citizens asked to evacuate not to delay or ignore the order, as this will put first responders in danger.

Just caught this from WWL-TV weather blog this morning: "You can see from the distance, there is currently a large margin of air in the forecast track in the next 5 days. " :D

even if the shear is really bad and weakens this to a tropical storm before landfall in the gulf, it's still going to bring A LOT of rain due to the size of it.....

this storm is going to absolutely BOMB before it reaches Cuba...Cat 4 in the making? Why? has all of the ingredients, low shear, warm water, no land to cross over until Cuba, etc.......Major in the making.

CVZ, there is nothing that recon is finding that shows its even a hurricane or going through any rapid intensification. Its interacting with the trough, it may not strengthen much in the 12 hours or so.
