looking at infared, cristobal thought it would be rude to fire new convection while the hunters are riding through

NHC saying "likely to strengthen" leads me to believe they think it has a pretty solid LLC (more so than i thought) because the convection has declined rapidly over last 12 hours....so if and when it refires perhaps that is when it will increase.

For those who have been using it, I added the NHC track for Cristobal to the sat and radar loop...

http://orionweather.net/index.php?content=radar.html

There is/was a ship to the southeast of the center reporting 30kt winds from the SSE, but it has currently disappeared from the last couple frames...hmmm... maybe Cristobal got hungry.

Yep, and I already got a desktop alert from channel 9...."Cristobal forms off Carolina coast"

They actually tend to come and go quite a bit like that... not sure why... but I'm sure all is well. I think the winds they report are often accurate, although I question some of the pressure reports.

The pressure seems to be dropping relatively fast for such a new storm. May be sub 1000 by 11pm at this rate.

It definitely looks like it is strengthening based on radar, IR, and sat.

Looks like the radar signature of an intensifying storm.

What in the presentation shows intensification? I'm not doubting you at all, I'm still learning and want to know what people are looking at as signs of intensification.

Looks like just about all air traffic now routed away....AirTrans has one headed that way...
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/TRS659 see if he stays at 31k....there are a couple bizjets behind him but they are at 41k and above... Rest of the normal North South domestic traffic hugging the coast....

Sometimes when the pre-eyewall bands jut into the center like claws it is a sign of the center trying to wrap tighter, or intensify.

We've had a couple of good soaking rains so far here around Emerald Isle, NC.

Hey first time poster here (lurked around as a guest during most of Bertha and stuff)

I'm hoping that maybe we get a little rain from this up here on Long Island considering it hasn't rained here for over a week IIRC. On the flip side, however, I don't wanna be feeling the effects of a strong hurricane hitting here, cause I don't think it would weaken if it took a track to the west as water temperatures are reaching 80 off the Jersey Shore. Should be interesting to follow

P.S.: When's The Weather Channel going on Storm Alert so we can have that awesome music playing on the local on the 8's again? :p
