Re: Cat. 3 Hurricane Gustav in NW Caribbean Sea
Hate to be the bad guy but does every other post have to say "we are praying for you"?? I hope all in the path know everyone here cares about them and it needs to go unsaid. IMHO

it is for all point east of current track, its sped up and moving east. it was supposed to be moving 1 degree north and 1.4 west from 4am to 4PM today, per last nhc. that is less than northwest. lets see what next 3 hours hold.

look at nhc updated 3 day cone map...
notice the need for a wnw track to come close to next point.

A continued movement of NNW would make a HUGE difference in the final landfall. if it were to to continue for any decent amount of time. Being on the Eastern side as NOLA, MGC, and as we are here along the SW/AL coast the impact would be far much greater.

Could be the normal trochoidal wobbles with a very intense storm.

Isn't it to early to start watching all the wobbles north, nnw, east, wherever? I mean Gustav could move nnw for 12 hrs today then more wnw 24 hrs before landfall and wouldn't that equate to a nw heading? Not trying to be a smart a$$ but still have a lot of time to watch. I will admit I will be watching every wobble also with great interest as I live about 70 miles nne of where predicited landfall is right now. DWG it seems the easterly bias storms have when they get close to here has everyone on edge. That is all you hear people say is that every time such and such storm is forecast to go ______, it always seems to hit a little further to the east than forecast.

Im seeing more then a wobble...seems somewhat like a trend sadly...the storm is definitely trending East of the forecast points and thats not changing.
Models thrown aside somewhat at this point...Satellite pictures tell the story this late in the game. We know the general motion of the storm...but the further East the more danger to SE LA.
Edit: Not only that but its moving FAST. The faster it moves, the less likely itll be shunted further west like some globals predict. Landfall over Cuba is going to make the difference today...

Wow, Gus has really grown in size the last 24 hrs. I was thinking earlier that Gus would be a rather small storm - wrong again. On the N-NW movement, there were a few models (GFS, CMC, NOGAPs) showing that this movement might occur up into the SE GOM a couple of days ago and then it would bend more NW once into the central GOM. Have to wait to see if this is a trend or simply short term wobble.

At times like this I think prayer cannot hurt nor do I think comments made by other posters stating they will be praying for those who might be in harms way of the storm will also hurt. At times like these it doesn't hurt to have God on our side to protect us from life's storms.Extratropical1 wrote:Hate to be the bad guy but does every other post have to say "we are praying for you"?? The forecast track is unchanged from 5 am. Track forecasts do not change at intermediate advisories.
