Batten down the hatches there CajunMama. New track is directly over Lafayette (my home town). Lafayette hasn't seen a hurricane this strong in quite a while pass directly overhead.

Have we had one directly in the path? My brain is on overload right now. We'll be very alert of what is going on around us. Thanks.

Us cajuns must be a hardheaded group. PTracker, crazycajuncane, srt, Innotech, Breinla, Mahmoo, Tenspeed and forgive me if i forgot anyone else are all staying here.

I can't remember if you've had one or not in recent memory, but you won't forget this one. Stay safe, you'll be in our prayers, at least you don't have to worry about coastal surge in Lafayette. The wind though looks to be intense there though.

Is this east of the NHC track? I honestly can't tell...I think it's about that time to stop looking at radars and satellites because they are all running together now!

PS - we don't need anymore "-removed-" posts right now so here is my disclaimer (again)...this does/will not affect me in any way because I live in north Alabama!

On radar it's wobbled NNW again. Overall, following right along the NHC track.

A visible eye now appearing. The darn thing is strengthening. My observations are based on NHC image update a few minutes ago.

It could not be happening at a worse time, either.

Is it even really possible to strengthen? I mean I see an eye forming but that isn't necessarily an indication of a strengthening phase is it?

I could be wrong but I have heard that is a sign of an intensifying storm, or maybe just a strong storm which we already know. Pro Mets is this true?
That satellite image has dramatically improved just since the last advisory, just about 45 minutes ago from what I can tell. Am I crazy?

Definitely seems slightly NNW on radar. I can't see this storm moving the way they show it on the NHC track...

An eye forming is usually indicative of at the very least, organizing, which usually means that conditions are conducive to strengthening.

We should wait for reconnaissance data before jumping to conclusions, but with the dramatic improvements in satellite presentation and the lightning in the eyewall, it is difficult to imagine that it is not strengthening.

Did anyone see Jim C. standing in front of a boat in Houma? There was a family with children that plan to ride out the storm on the boat. When asked why they were staying on the boat, the parents said because the kids wanted to. Jim looked so mad that he was about to cry. How can people be so stupid?

Sometimes I wonder about these people...

This may seem pointless, but has anyone studied the relation of Mesocyclones and strengthening? Whenever Gustav was strengthening, I noticed Mesocyclones, and when it was weakening, I didn't see any.

With that said, I'm noticing some mesocyclonic activity.

Well it is possible its strengthening. Jasons just reported that radar is showing signs of lightening from the eye-wall based on what I have seen in the past when there is lightening in the eye-wall that is a sign of either rapid weakening and rapid strengthening. That is just based on what I have seen in the past I am not sure if there is any relation or not.

Soupbones,

I'm by no means an expert, but this is the first time I and others have seen a reasonably well-defined eye since Cuba. Your thoughts?

I hope this is just your sick imagination and joking (I believe you 100%, humor me)

But that entire family, including the children, deserve the Darwin Award for excellency and self ownage.

most of the times its true, but this has been occurring several times today and no rapid intensification has taken place thus far

As I've said before movement is in the "eye of the beholder".
