Sub: Cyclone Warning for West Bengal Coast
The deep depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal moved rapidly in a north-northeasterly direction, intensified into a cyclonic storm, ‘RASHMI’ and lay centred at 1730 hours IST of today, the 26th October 2008 near lat. 19.50 N and Long. 88.00 E, about 200 km southeast of Paradip and 350 km south of Kolkata. The system is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northeasterly direction and cross West Bengal-Bangladesh coast around 890E by tomorrow, the 27th October morning.
Under its influence, rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is likely over Gangetic West Bengal during next 48 hours. Rainfall at many places with isolated heavy falls is also likely over north coastal Orissa during next 24 hours and northeastern states during next 48 hours.
Gale winds speed reaching 60-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph are likely along and off West Bengal coast during next 24 hours. Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to to 75 kmph are also likely along and off Orissa coast during the same period. Sea condition is high to very high along and off West Bengal coast and very rough to high along and off Orissa coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
Storm surge of about 2 metres above astronomical tide is likely over south 24 Pargana and adjoining areas of east Midnapur districts of West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coast at the time of landfall.

It was, until they changed the naming lists, Burma was changed to Myammar and Rashmi was their new name.

The list was updated this year, none of the countries changed there previously contributed names except Srilanka and Maldives. Maldives changed 2 and Srilanka changed 3 of there previous names. Rashmi is one of those 3 new names given by Srilanka.
