After viewing threads, indicators show threads unviewed

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Tue Sep 23, 2003 3:36 pm

I have gone through all threads I haven't viewed since this morning and the threads "red indicators" are remaining red after I view them, rather then changing to "yellow indicators." This is also occurring for each forum on the Index Page.

I am using the FI Plain template.

Our domain name shifted over to the new server today. Try dumping you temp files and cookies and see if that doesn't clear it up. :-)

After I caught up on thread, I logged out of the site and dumped my temporary internet files and cookies, it didn't work... I will try it again.

You may remember I frequently delete my temporary internet files and cookies, as well as clear history.

This happened last night and then was fine during the overnight hours.

Update: Second time didn't work, either.

If the domain name shifted over, how come I still am redirected when I log on and I have to use this URL:

That's the same URL showing up in my address bar.
Doesn't say anything about Storm2K there.

I am logging onto this site through storm2k.org, then click "Message Board" from the menu at the left.

My cookie is storm2k.org; but it redirects me to the IP address shown above. I don't get it. :?

Domains take up to 48 hours to publish through the entire internet. Let's give it another 24 hours and see how the name resolves. :-)

The "yellow indicators" are now showing up for me [rather then them staying red], after threads and forums are read and completed. :)

Late night Wednesday/Early Thursday Edit: The "red indicators" are again remaining after I visit threads... this must be occurring on and off, for at least some of us.

Tom the Domain finally transferred overnight. For the last time hopefully you need to clear cookies one more time :-)

As I said above, it didn't matter after I cleared my cookies two times. When I returned to my computer (not sure if I clear cookies), the 'indicators' were working again. :)

At the moment the they are working great. :)

I figured it had to do with the new server. Thank you Marshall and Chad. :D

I was having the same problem- and realized that my "favorites" link to the forums was linked to the IP address instead of http://www.storm2k.org

At the IP it woudln't fix the indicators- but I'm now fine :)

That's a great point! The way cookies work is that they try and match up the site address with the appropriate cookie. So even if the IP address and the URL point to the same place, to cookies, they are two different locations. :-) Go figure, must have been a Microsoft employee that came up with that one ;-)

When I go into a forum, the indicators don't show up for a new post...I just need to know how to delete my cookies...I have deleted my Temp Files, but I don't know how to delete my cookies--Marshall's thread I read but I don't have a "Delete Cookies" option. :(
