cycloneye i believe you are right. The system which is now Ida did dump alot of rain over El Salvador but it was the EPAC system that caused the main issues with around 14 inches of rain falling in just 24 hours on already saturated grounds.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone effected right now.

Luis, it certainly looks like the GFS keeps this tropical as it landfalls in the Mobile/Pensacola area. I am leaning more and mor of this staying tropical at landfall

I agree i thinks Ida wasn't ever going to be held down. I think the low in the BOC was the caveat It was forecast to be so much stronger.

Wow! I just got to my computer and boy I missed a lot. My first impression is that, as Aric and others are saying, it's still going to the right of the forecast. Looks to me from satellites that the SE ridge has stopped now and is beginning to erode on the western side; at the same time you can see the leading edge/bottom of the shortwave troughing starting to show up in West Texas. This is November and things are happening fast. So I think Ida is going to stay towards the right of that forecast cone.

that would be a big negatory, all interests in the panhandle and east of there better be ready for whatever at this point, there is a big collision of energy coming up regardless of tropical, sub, extra, or nontropical, the east side of this sytem is going to be prime for tornados

It is a nightmare. Mudslides are one of the worst of El Salvador's history you can see maps with the amounts of rain on that thread, 355 mm (15 inches) fell in 24 hours. Ida began to produce rains on wednsday and thursday and then 96 E produced the heavy rains yesterday, like Derek said 96-E was captured on the inflow of Ida, if Ida wouldn't have existed then 96-E may not have caused all of those problems.
