Catarina (2004) was named by the same weather institutions that named Anita that tracked and warned the public all over the storm.

MetSul is a private weather center. The official representative of Brazil at the WMO is Inmet that silenced over the storm. Catarina has a name only because other centers took the initiative to name it in 2004. And it is the name used by the general population and the entire Meteorology in Brazil, even by Inmet meteorologists. People do not ask if there is a hurricane coming, but "a new Catarina". The same centers that named Catarina in 2004, did it again now to this storm. To wait for the national governamental centers would be the same to wait forever. The storm would remain unnamed. Inmet in regional offices works from 8AM to 6PM, so they were not even monitoring the storm in evening hours, while the private meteorologists were in the radio 24 hours a day live to inform the people. Do not take the US reality (NOAA/NWS) to Brazil 'cause is quite different. If there was no private Meteorology in Brazil, people would be screwed up.

That looks more like about 55-60 kt, but it is hard to say how well the winds are translating to the surface. I would go with a 50 kt estimate (pressure 994mb).

I believe this name is quite alright in the topic since it is the name that will be remembered just like Catarina was. Since they do not have an official naming procedure down there, this is the next best way of doing business.

There will be NEVER an official name for this storm as there is no name list for South Atlantic or a WMO chosen OFFICIAL center to select the name.

I have a problem with the way it's put in the topic, "Named: ANITA", as if it were actually named. I don't mind something like, maybe, "S. ATL - INVEST 90SL - also called "Anita"".

It looks exactly the same as those shallow topped systems you get in the NE Atlantic, I've gotta say its strengthened quite a lot more then I thought was possible, esp given the way its presentation decayed yesterday, but it still had a strong LLC so I suppose it was always possible it was going to wrap up again. Impressive stuff.

Also, will this system get added onto the global ACE?
I guess not since its not offical even though it is a TS...

VERY INTERESTING. WOW, the South Atlantic Ocean gets a mention. Hope the coming 2010 North Atlantic Ocean Hurricane Season is less exciting than this thread..

I agree. Im not agree that clear tropical storms in the south Atlantic and the Mediterranean sea should be ignored and not have an official naming just because they said by a system ufficilale as the NHC. I agree with the names given by the people even if not officially.
