They haven't even flown into the deep convection yet.

There have been a few SFMR of tropical storm-intensity and RECON hasn't investigated the deeper convection

Luis the winds take a bit to catch up the pressure drops right? Or does that only work with Hurricanes?

Sorry about the error in the Google Earth mapping. I became aware of the new HDOB change about a week ago but I had not tested the decoder well enough since I was unsure about how some of it would come through. (Like the //// rather than /// and whether the sign would remain.) But what I completely forgot about was updating my live mapping system since I could not test that part of it without a live storm. I have made all the updates and it appears to be working again now on the main site. I'll update the mirror as well shortly.

Thanks, Chris, for all the hard work you put into the recon decoder. It works great!

Back to the recon data. Could it be that there is no single well-defined center and instead multiple vortices embedded in a broader circulation center?

They have not released a vortex message yet?

Flying at 150 meters is nothing.....you should see a Navy P-3 when it is searching for a sub....lucky if they are 50 feet off the surface.

I would not be surprised if recon finds some TS force winds in the convection.......MGC

Is there a particular reason that recon still hasn't flown to the NE quad of the storm? It seems like they are concentrating their efforts on the other sides?

Looks like they're finally heading for the NE quad.

My guess is they want consistency from the weak side of the circulation....it's no good to upgrade a system to a tropical storm only to find the circulation is transient and it's opened up into a wave only a few hours later. That might be why they're focusing on the sides without convection, but I don't really know.

I dont think it will make a new pass before the next advisory as the plane is far from the center, unless they wait to just before 5 PM.
