Happened to be walking the dog when it first hit, not good timing! :D

First black rainstorm in two years. The lightning display was beautiful though. Storms before typhoon Koppu last year brought over 13,000 lightning strikes in a couple of hours which knocked out Cheng Chau weather station, so it was quite tame in comparison lightning wise today.

Pressure in Wuchuan which got a direct hit dropped down to 973.1hPa - http://www.weather.com.cn/html/weather/101281002.shtml

Again, I can't tell whether these reports represent true surface obs or an interpolated analysis using real reporting stations (for example, the Weather Channel's TruPoint system). I can't find these stations on a METAR station list. In fact, I can't even call up the actual METAR for Zhanjiang, but if I believe the Weather Underground page at http://www.wunderground.com/history/sta ... atename=NA, the pressure there really was at least 985 mb. The wind reports did not exceed TD force, but obs were only every 3 hr.

must make a change for the typhoon to drop into you're lap rather then you having to go anywhere

Yes heard about Koppu cause was in Singapore at the time. Friend said it was like "The world was going to end". As Chacor will confirm, Singapore can have some pretty amazing lightning as well. I have some good video footage which upload sometime

Well the Typhoon was still 400km away, but experience the effects of the outer rainbands. Think we are in for exciting August and September!

I have not payed attention to this system as my attention is to Bonnie so I ask if the last advisory has been written on it?

Still a 35-knot TS inland at the last advisory.

JTWC wrote their last advisory at 15Z at TS strength; as Chacor stated, JMA is still calling it a TS, but just barely, for their 0Z advisory.

As far as I know those obs were from a valid weather station. China has plenty of weather stations which you would not find on a METAR station list.
