Models seem to want to weaken Celia rapidly though...will that happen? Stay tuned.

Ironically, Ava's season (1973) may end up being the best analog for this year: extremely fast start (with a June Cat. 5), but ending fairly slow.

Hope this kind of action stays in the EPAC and moves out to sea. Beautiful hurricane though......MGC

This has been a very remarkable start of the season with Agatha being one of the deadliest East Pacific storms, Celia became a category 5 and Darby is the earliest 4th named system since 1991. And yes, this is the first time that the East Pacific has a category 5 hurricane in two consecutive years.

I didn't think Celia would be a Category 5 hurricane and that early . Satellite image reminds me of Isabel or even Katrina. Very impressive storm!

I'm completely speechless at this point, WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE EPAC!!!!!!!!?!?!?! A category 5 in June, far from the highest heat content (although still high), in a approaching La Nina pattern, and so close to the last category 5 in the Epac (Rick), THIS IS INSANE! Did the Epac and the Atlantic switch just now? Not to mention how incredibly rare it is for a June category 5 to even form in the Epac.

Instantly the predictions of a below average Epac season have been crushed. It's hyperactivity is probably going to simmer down but not enough to force a below average season. And to also see in the wide shot what Hurricane Darby is doing at the same time (popping out a very tiny eye) is monstrous!

Very likely how it's going to pan out.

For the love of god, how is this happening right now? This is a La Nina year... what on earth is going on?

I don't know why people are freaking out. A fast start means nothing.

The last time 4 storms had formed in the EPAC by the end of June was 1991, a year that saw just 14 storms in the EPAC. This basin normally sees 16 named storms in one year.

Yea, theres no way the EPAC can finish ahead of the Atlantic this year. No way. This fast start has me worried though. I guess its just the final touches of the El Nino.

Celia becomes only the 2nd Category 5 hurricane to occur in the EPAC outside of an El Nino season.

The other was Hurricane Ava in 1973.
