Re: ATL: Hurricane EARL - Discussion
Suggestion from a (usually only lurking) Gulf Coaster- who's been through too many tropical events- for all of you East Coasters who are worriedor nervous: Check out the Hurricane Prep forum (http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=30) for really good hurricane preparation info. Print a to-do list and keep that list nearby. If you're laying in bed trying to sleep and start thinking of things to add to the to-do list, add them then. Better to have them on paper and out of your head. Do try to get sleep the next night or two because IF this hurricane does visit your part of the coast, and I hope and pray it does not, you are going to need your strength and energy. We just called cousins who live on Long Island to make sure they're aware of the storm and give them some tips. Good luck and God bless all!

and TWC being a national show, Takes 2min for their full tropical update and 5min for some dolphins and sunsets. Local Networks will likely have more coverage.

From what I've read, movement can't be perfectly tracked by radar but it's the best I've got for now. Does this seem accurate? I placed a marker at the center of the eye at 7:09 p.m. and then put my mouse in the center at 8:45 and it showed 307 degrees. I'd like to know someones opinion who is more experienced. Thanks!
i def...believe that is at least 300 over the last 90 minutes.....please post again around 10 and let us know if it's a consistent movement

What's up with Comcast.net? Here's a copy and pasted headline about the hurricane Earl:
"Hurricane Earl has rapidly intensified into a major Category 4 storm on a path projected to strike the eastern U.S." ???
Way to go Comcast to panic everyone!!!!...Now I just got home from work, and I haven't looked at Earl for about 3 hours, so I'm assuming the path hasn't changed and it's still projected to be off the eastern coast , but the above headline is NOT an error, it's from the news headlines at comcast.net..

Oh I will be able to sleep tonight, working 2 full time jobs I can and I am working 20 hours today...don't know about the rest of the week though..am getting a tad worried..read the comcast article noted above too, sigh

Been on the OBX for 36 years, evac once. Cat 4 strike would flatten us. 90% of houses her stick built (including mine).
Just about every year this time of year I think of the three pigs.

Great advice. Just looked at the NJ Office of Emergency Management. It has no mention of Earl but they do have info on hurricane preparedness.

Howdy neighbor. Looking like a high water event for us, in my opinion. If it tracks further west of the NHC track....well, then it'll be a major event for us. I am hoping for the former!

Okay, once I saw the headline, I clicked on it, and then the news article down plays it, it says
"Already dangerous with sustained winds of 135 mph (215 kph), Earl is expected to gain more strength before POTENTIALLY brushing the U.S. East Coast this week and bringing deadly rip currents"
So I guess the headline was just being dramatic to get people to click on the story....
