Note=Plane is flying towards 91L.They departed from ST Croix.

Where they were initially supposed to depart from St Croix?

ST Croix is the main base for the HH in the Caribbean. But they have departed in the past from other islands like Antigua and Barbados.Dont know the answer in this case.

The Government of Haiti has just issued a Yellow Alert in preparation for 91L:

http://www.meteo-haiti.gouv.ht/vigilance.php (in French)

We are working with the government of Haiti and also the humanitarian community there to make sure they have the latest information on 91L. However, warnings are a very political issue in Haiti. This is sometimes out of the meteorologists' control. It's good that in this case they are taking the initiative and notifying the public early. The humanitarian community has been proactive and I can vouch that they are taking 91L VERY seriously.

Question to one of the French Islanders:

Why does the Island of Guadeloupe have a yellow alert and Martinique not?

The wave supposed to pass south of Martinique. :double:

Many of the models show 91L turning W or WSW slowly at the end of their runs. Maybe the trough is not strong enough to fully recurve 91L and leaves it behind somewhere near Hispaniola??

The posts in this forum are NOT official forecast and should not be used as such. They are just the opinion of the poster and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. They are NOT endorsed by any professional institution or storm2k.org. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Yes the models have been depicting a weaker trough than on previous days that's why 91L will have more time over water to intensify, the models are in good agreement that Jamaica and Hispaniola are going to be affected, after that it could go through the Bahamas, Cuba or the open Atlantic they should watch 91L carefully IMO.

outer bands heading toward Barbados, Windwards:

It should be noted that much of the E Caribbean has experienced all-time record flooding within the last few weeks. Try to imagine a finite set of resources: labor, heavy machinery, funds, and no interstate highways to simply drive in some more stuff. The cleanup continues. I know our ghuts are still not cleared and our roads are not yet repaired, thus more rains have potential to cause disproportionate damage. This week's newspaper listed our infrastructure damage to exceed $10 million dollars from the rains last month - a lot for an entire nation of only 25,000 people. I'm sure the situation is proportionately similar in other EC nations which sustained heavy damage.

I will be shocked if they don't find Tomás although I have been fooled by satellite images before.

Any bets on it being a hurricane when recon gets in there?
Is the same storm that the models had going north over the DR and up the East Coast?

no not a hurricane but a 40 to 50 mph TS is possible..

once a well established center is in place it will likely rapidly intensify
