Don't know for sure but Hurricane Two at least made a near hit in Mid-May 1908 as a Cat 1.

radar is very deceiving with the large void/ partial eye. recon last vdm was just s of do west. after that wobble from the of vort that got absorbed earlier.

Was thinking the same thing. It is really hard to fix visually of course, especially with that large CoC/eye. Still I see the center of the CoC on radar and circulation envelope on sat have slightly elongated south to north with a northward jog. But these changes are common near landfall and often get smoothed out in the end. Thanks for making the point.

There should probably be a upgrade. being that the shelf water is not affecting it intensification. but they will likely do it in post analysis. just because.

He's critical Andrew. The anseurysm (sp) sealed itself today but there's been massive bleeding inside the brain and it's all on the left side. The nurses were asking him if he could hear them and according to his son who was in there at the time said he did squeeze her hand so at least he can move that left hand. How much is paralized no one knows yet. Massive stroke is the diagnosis right now. It happened late yesterday evening at his home here in Milan. He's was my dad's best man 64 years ago this coming August 12. Let's see what tonight brings now. Btw thanks for your help today.

It's been about 45 minutes since recon confirmed hurricane strength winds, and about 25 since the VDM reinforced that, and no word from the NHC. I'm loosing hope on an upgrade soon. Even if they don't issue an advisory, the NHC usually gives an update to give a new intensity. They did that for Alberto when recon found stronger than expected winds.

Or maybe I'm just impatient lol.

Yes, that. Forgot the name. They issued one for Alberto shortly after Recon found 60mph winds.

An interesting thing that occured with the 8 PM advisory is that three NHC forecasters worked on it.

That near-hit happened May 30. Check the Unisys Weather site, though (it would be too hard for me to post it on my device right now).

As for across the basin, I think a storm in 1952 holds the record.
Edit: The first hurricane of 1908 holds the record for at least a near-miss in March.

Quite possibly the oddest home page screen for a news station with a borderline ts/hurricane moving onshore. Where is this expiration date by city info even found? Some apparently don't expire to next Sunday!!!

Looks like an upgrade to hurricane status will not come into fruition. After all, all they had to base it on were flight-level winds.
