Yesterday she was super "top heavy" and it looks loke maybe it's starting to swing around and get that "tail" from the cold front we were discussing last night? IDK, I'm a weather moron. Just watching and waiting, cuz I have seen ALOT down here in La, but I've never seen this...

A tropical storm wind field size you won't see often...bermuda is in the t.s. winds now and they have been under a t.s. warning since yesterday!

Have to wonder how that Carnival Cruise that was going from New York to the Bahamas is doing..as of last night, they weren't changing course!

Is this the first time a SNOWFALL forecast has ever had to be included in a hurricane advisory??

Where I'm riding out the storm. Thinking about seeing if I can find a webcam anywhere and setting that up...but unlikely, as I'm parked high up right now and don't want to lose that spot.

Bermuda and the Outerbanks in the same wind field. That is just so insane. Who here would have believed it 2 weeks ago?

add to that multiple reports of water in homes off of las olas and on fort lauderdale beach today due to tidal flooding- at the same time there are reports of flooding in cape may, new jersey. All the while, the NYC subway is shutting down in 2 hours and sandbags are being placed north of boston and you have a weather event that spans 1500 miles north to south and 900 miles east to west. Amazing.

If this doesn't hit home to evacuate if you are told to, I don't know what will. This is from the Mt. Holly NWS office:

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ
241 PM EDT SUN OCT 28 2012

...AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM TO IMPACT THE AREA...

SANDY IS EXPECTED TO SLAM INTO THE NEW JERSEY COAST LATER MONDAY
NIGHT, BRINGING VERY HEAVY RAIN AND DAMAGING WINDS TO THE REGION.
THE STORM IS A LARGE ONE, THEREFORE DO NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT CENTER
OF THE STORM AS ALL AREAS WILL HAVE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS.

THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE AN HISTORIC STORM, WITH WIDESPREAD WIND
DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES, INLAND AND COASTAL FLOODING, AND MASSIVE
BEACH EROSION. THE COMBINATION OF THE HEAVY RAIN AND PROLONGED WIND
WILL CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR LONG LASTING POWER OUTAGES AND SERIOUS
FLOODING.

PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE WRAPPING UP AS CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO
WORSEN TONIGHT AND ESPECIALLY ON MONDAY.

SOME IMPORTANT NOTES...

1. IF YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO EVACUATE A COASTAL LOCATION BY STATE
AND LOCAL OFFICIALS, PLEASE DO SO.

2. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT TO EVACUATE, AND YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO RODE
OUT THE `62 STORM ON THE BARRIER ISLANDS, ASK THEM IF THEY COULD DO
IT AGAIN.

3. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT, THINK ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES, THINK ABOUT
THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO REACH YOU WHEN YOU
MAKE THE PANICKED PHONE CALL TO BE RESCUED, THINK ABOUT THE
RESCUE/RECOVERY TEAMS WHO WILL RESCUE YOU IF YOU ARE INJURED OR
RECOVER YOUR REMAINS IF YOU DO NOT SURVIVE.

4. SANDY IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM. THERE WILL BE MAJOR
PROPERTY DAMAGE, INJURIES ARE PROBABLY UNAVOIDABLE, BUT THE GOAL IS
ZERO FATALITIES.

5. IF YOU THINK THE STORM IS OVER-HYPED AND EXAGGERATED, PLEASE ERR
ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION.

WE WISH EVERYONE IN HARMS WAY ALL THE BEST. STAY SAFE!

$$

I guess I mean that any storm seriously threatening millions of people would NORMALLY have SLIGHTLY more posts this close to landfall. Correct me if I'm wrong?

I'm here, I'm just busy cleaning gear. And really, I've said all I can say...all I can do now is watch, wait, and pray I don't see a disaster unfold through Tuesday/Wednesday and beyond.

Is it just the way the NHC drew their map, or are they really meaning that Sandy may maintain hurricane force winds for a while after moving inland?

If you are in a surge zone and have not left or do not plan to leave, you are making a grave mistake.

Let's stick to the topic and stop worrying about how many people are here or posting. The important thing is that folks take this thing seriously. People don't need to post to be present, and many will be making their preparations.

Jim Cantore on TWC just showed a Celebrity Cruise ship leaving New York harbor...over 2500 passengers and crew on a ship that size...i can not believe that is heading out to sea...no matter what direction that ship is heading, those folks are heading straight into 20, 30, even 40 foot seas. Couldn't pay me to be on that ship.
