Anyone see a combined U.S. death toll yet? Five in NY and four in NJ is what I have seen so far.

Along with one, maybe two, from the Bounty ship, one possibly from CT making 12 highest so far...Very sad.

I have to agree. Not to take a political stance, but he was warning people off of this yesterday. He said it wasn't going to be that bad. Of course a couple hours after he said that, he issued evacs for zone A. I am not taking any political stance on this, other than to say he has been rather irresponsible from the beginning in warning his citizens.

As bad as it is in NYC, Sandy hit the bulls-eye in New Jersey. Afraid of what first light will show there...

Well, I can give a little bit of a report: Parts of the Shore are bad enough that houses have been knocked off foundations.

Where my home in Central NJ is, power is out, transformers have been exploding, and trees have been falling. And that's just around my home. Other friends in surrounding towns with similar issues. I'd expect at least as bad as Irene. (5+ day power outages for many people). I'm away and up in Binghamton but have been on the phone frequently all night with family.

In fact the surge is going down there, but the tide is rising faster than that so the net water level is still going up.

So their statement is correct but not complete.

This is pretty bad for NYC, but I'm also a bit more worried about other areas in NJ And CT and other places that haven't had much news. (IE New Orleans vs Gulfport, etc in Katrina)

And I'm sure you're aware that the MTA is an organization governed at the NY State level and not by the City of New York. Bloomberg would not have the authority to shut down all of the trains that run outside of his jurisdiction. The MTA CEO is appointed by the NY governor, and its Board members are are confirmed by the NY State Senate.
