That is true. Once a storm approaches, all of that area becomes completely under water, from the tidal surge. So basically, and not counting the very tiny strip of hard land, which is the river levee on both sides of the Mississippi, all of SELA is now under water for the most part, except the areas abut 20 miles straight south from New Orleans northward.

Oh wow, you can really see that. This thing has finally pulled itself together after suffering for the entirety of its existence. Gonna be a very interesting next couple of hours that's for sure.

Do you mean 1551 CDT not 1551 GMT (which is 10:51 am). The latest ob I have is 2125 UTC (or 4:25 pm local time / CDT), which was 36 kts sustained (barely tropical storm) gusting to 62 kts. Considering nearby gusts at KMIS, I'd guess that power has been lost to that station (or the transmission network is down and the observations cannot be disseminated). Let me know if you come across a later update!
