On this radar, you can clearly see the beginnings of a southern eyewall. We may see Isaac's eye afterall.

Isaac is a big, round beautiful pinwheel on visible.

Oh wow, you can really see that. This thing has finally pulled itself together after suffering for the entirety of its existence. Gonna be a very interesting next couple of hours that's for sure.

Definitely the last opportunity for any intensification to occur. I'd say Isaac has less than 2 1/2 hours to intensify. If it manages to intensify, it'll probably reach 85 mph, nothing stronger than that. There's very little time and water left for Isaac to strengthen, so if it manages to do so, it will most likely be a minimal amount of intensification.

Do you mean 1551 CDT not 1551 GMT (which is 10:51 am). The latest ob I have is 2125 UTC (or 4:25 pm local time / CDT), which was 36 kts sustained (barely tropical storm) gusting to 62 kts. Considering nearby gusts at KMIS, I'd guess that power has been lost to that station (or the transmission network is down and the observations cannot be disseminated). Let me know if you come across a later update!

So what does that mean? Is it not coming ashore in NOLA? or will it rake the coastline all the way to Mississippi?

To catch the eye should I be in Houma? Or Morgan City? Other?

Thanks.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

According to NOAA's center coords, it's about 19 nautical miles from the tip of Plaquemines parish.

That is true. Once a storm approaches, all of that area becomes completely under water, from the tidal surge. So basically, and not counting the very tiny strip of hard land, which is the river levee on both sides of the Mississippi, all of SELA is now under water for the most part, except the areas abut 20 miles straight south from New Orleans northward.

Do we know that the back levees in Plaquemines have been breached, or are you saying there's so little land due to decades of erosion that it's mostly water?

Oops on the GMT! I'm not good at typing fast and thinking at the same time.  Yeah, their readings are just too suspect. I will keep looking around. :)

Just lost power in my NOLA Gentilly neighborhood for about five minutes. Surprised we got it back so quickly; I thought we were down for the count! LOL
