Tropical Cyclone Outlook for the Western Region
Issued at 1:00 pm WST on Tuesday 25 February 2014
for the period until midnight WST Friday 28 February 2014.
Existing Cyclones in the Western Region:
Nil.
Potential Cyclones:
Convection persists along the active monsoon trough stretching from the Indian
Ocean to the Timor and Arafura Seas. A weak low pressure system was located
near Christmas Island, that is near 10.5S 105E at 12:00pm WST. This system is
moving slowly westwards and is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone.
Likelihood of this system being a tropical cyclone in the Western Region on:
Wednesday Low
Thursday Low
Friday Low
There are no other significant tropical lows in the region and none are
expected to develop in the next three days. Over the weekend another weak low
pressure system may drift westwards from the Northern Region into the Western
Region. This system is also not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone but
the situation will continue to be monitored.
