Eerie indeed, insects and animals thinking that it is all over.

Upper air data peek... 11200ft 625mb 150 deg 08kt
.... looks like the eye of a hurricane!
BWS has managed to successfully release a 00z balloon in the eye of now Cat 2 Hurricane Gonzalo, after the first attempt taken out by downdrafts & trees. We are looking forward to the data in the middle of this historic hurricane
It has been rather intense these last several hours... we are trying to keep our spirits up and it helps to sprinkle in a moment of release, just at the same time Gonzalo is doing the same thing - humor and music can do that...

It's nice and calm outside at the moment cause of the eye, but the wind that this system has given is absolutely beyond words can explain. It's strange cause we lost cell phone service but it's back however its a matter of how long!
Even though I'd read several accounts over the years about how quickly the winds can increase with the passage of the eye, it's still unbelievable how quickly conditions have deteriorated from practically dead calm to full court press! Good grief!NDG wrote:abajan wrote:Here comes the wind (and rain) again:

Yeah, their winds is now coming from the NNW.

Yes, the airport is on the far northeast side of the islands, and the webcam is on the opposite/western coast.
