Looks like continuing to strengthen as convection wraps into the COC

Moving into an improving UL environment with 200mb PV to the west of the COC.

Per WFTS Action News 28-

Bayshore Blvd. closed by Hillsborough County sheriff. Flooding possible. Also that is where the small twister was reported heading NW to Swann Ave.

May I be the first to suggest(and grudgingly I might add ), lets give some props to the much maligned GEM/CMC..the Canadian for the uninitiated. While not spot on, it certainly had a solid grasp on intensity...the only model to consistently suggest a sub 1000mb storm into the Big Bend....Rich

For a sheared tropical storm in the Atlantic, Andrea looks impressive. And yes we've been all expecting real soaker, but those thick rainbands and thunderstorms look nasty.... its impacts could surpass Debby in Florida.

WOW, 60 mph moving NNE at 13 mph.

Per the local mets the lightening field is intensifying around the core. Looks like she's going to come ashore as a strong TS, that's for sure!

TROPICAL STORM ANDREA DISCUSSION NUMBER 3
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL012013
400 AM CDT THU JUN 06 2013

SATELLITE IMAGERY AND DATA FROM AN AIR FORCE RESERVE HURRICANE
HUNTER PLANE INDICATE THAT ANDREA IS STRONGER. THE PLANE REPORTED
FLIGHT-LEVEL WINDS OF 63 KNOTS AT 5000 FEET AND BIAS-CORRECTED SFMR
WINDS OF 49 KNOTS IN THE EASTERN QUADRANT. THE CENTRAL PRESSURES
REPORTED BY THE AIRCRAFT WERE 997 MB FROM A DROP AND 996 MB
EXTRAPOLATED. ON THIS BASIS...THE INITIAL INTENSITY HAS BEEN
INCREASED TO 50 KNOTS. WE MUST EMPHASIZE THAT THESE STRONG WINDS
ARE CONFINED TO THE EASTERN SEMICIRCLE.

ANDREA IS PROBABLY NEAR ITS PEAK INTENSITY SINCE STRONG SHEAR SHOULD
HALT ANY SIGNIFICANT INTENSIFICATION BEFORE LANDFALL. ANDREA WILL
INTERACT WITH AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH AND BEGIN TO LOSE TROPICAL
CHARACTERISTICS IN ABOUT 36 HOURS...BUT TROPICAL STORM FORCE
WINDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE CYCLONE ARE FORECAST TO AFFECT THE EAST
COAST OF THE UNITED STATES.

FIXES FROM THE RECONNAISSANCE PLANE INDICATE THAT ANDREA IS MOVING
TOWARD THE NORTH-NORTHEAST ABOUT 11 KNOTS. GIVEN THE FORECAST
STEERING PATTERN PROVIDED BY GLOBAL MODELS...ANDREA SHOULD SOON
BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AND TURN MORE TO THE NORTHEAST. THE OFFICIAL
TRACK FORECAST IS A BLEND OF THE SLOWER ECMWF AND THE FASTER GFS
MODELS.

REGARDLESS OF THE EXACT TRACK OF THE CENTER OF ANDREA...THE
PRIMARY EFFECTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS MUCH OF THE
FLORIDA PENINSULA AND INTO THE COASTAL SECTIONS OF THE SOUTHEASTERN
UNITED STATES...STORM SURGE FLOODING ALONG PORTIONS OF THE WEST
COAST OF FLORIDA...AND ISOLATED TORNADOES TODAY ACROSS THE FLORIDA
PENINSULA.

Yeah the newly-upgraded CMC does a good job on this one, though not completely accurate. And the thing is that its been more consistent than the other models in showing Andrea's development. It's interesting to see if it will still do the same for the next storms, and also for other places like Western Pacific...

Great. Not. Not surprised it's at 60 mph. May make run at 70-75 before landfall.

What are they waiting for to put out a tornado warning for the cell in SW Dade County? Is showing a pretty good rotation.

Well, I've seen that tail before...and that one was either at or near hurricane strength as it moved into NC. I only forecast 55 to 60 knots, so y'all keep it in check for me! No full blown RI! Beyond my bed time...night (morning!) y'all!
