4-5 ft storm surge just shown on NBC news in Everglades City, but nothing substantial from Naples yet.

Thanks.

It is amazing to me that every time a storm does less damage then expected, people on social media moan and complain about the storm being all "hype" as if they wanted it to destroy people's lives. Shouldn't we as a society instead be thankful that the storm was not as bad as expected? Crazy.

Not news. Downtown Charleston floods during a heavy dew. Tomorrow is going to be a crapshow.

East of Mayakovsky City here. Sustained wind about 40 mph hour now and gusts about 70. Lights went down about 2 hours ago.

Parts of a big tree just fell in my back yard, which has way more water than I thought it would already. Went through this in Charley. This is already way scarier.

Pictures out of Everglades City streaming on NBC 2 look bad. Lots of halfway to the roof flooding but they didn't show how wide an area was inundated. Kind of what you'd expect and probably close to what a lot of the Keys look like except where beach properties potentially took on wave damage. Beast eye wall on the stream.

Portaransas wrote:I hear the folks saying this isn't over. But I think it's fair to say, judging from the minor damage in Naples via Jeff and others, the wind part of the storm was not even close to as severe as it could've been had Irma not scraped Cuba like it did. I'm not rooting for anyone to go outside, but compared to what it did in the Carribean, Florida did catch a big break. Surge? We'll see but even that doesn't seem to match with the severe predictions we saw. Rain seems to be a temporary problem as it gains forward speed and weakens. All that said, I do hope for minimal damage and hopefully no loss of life in Florida. I do think it's important for us to be less CONUS-centric and really think about/ send prayers out to the thousands of people in other places whose lives were upended by her pre-FL landfall.

Ummm, did you see the surge in the lower keys up to the. bottom of homes on stilts... There are many homes near ground level, Venture Out Community, that will be devistated and upended... That was a very uneducated comment from you!

I don't know blown. It was pretty fair - just maybe a bit early. You make out alright?

Gusting in the 80's here and the rain is unbelievable... My friend was reporting from his home in Marathon Key had 4' of water... Lower Keys going to be wrecked and I hope the Key Deer survived!! Thx...

I live in Rockledge in Central Brevard and we have been steady for 50 sustained and upper 60s for gusting! Power keeps flickering!

Reporting live from Naples.

I'm 5 feet above sea level in downtown.

No surge here.

Just rainwater being blown east maybe 1 ft deep in the low spots.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

Should be a slow and gradual improvement for SE and East-Central Florida up into the Treasure Coast throughout the evening and overnight from here on out.

Too many humans don't think about the critter toll. They can't evacuate and have no place to hide.

Still a couple hours from the highest winds here on the Treasure Coast. Gusting pretty good outside, 50 to 60 at least.

I have my location on the right. Nothing but drizzle and breezes here and there now.

What does "on the right" mean. I must be missing something.

Orlando Met said we need the cone of reality because he expects higher than anticipated winds and he believes it can be a lot east of the projected path
