Re: ATL: JOSE - Hurricane - Discussion
Wow those recon reports are both remarkable and horrifying. Reminds me a bit of Felix (2007) right now with that tight inner-core.

Unbelievable. I thought there was an error somewhere when I read Jose was a Cat 4. Same wind speed as Irma!

Wow, we might be looking at twin cat 5s later today. I am at odds on how these storms are getting such high winds without impressive BD grays. Recon does wonders for reality.

Has twin cat 5s ever happened before in the Atlantic, at the same time? I would think this would be incredibly rare since a cat 5 alone is unusual, but two of them at once? Wow.

I don't recall them in the Atlantic if they have. Only in the Pacific.

Never, at least not in the satellite era. Only a few years have had two cat 5's the entire season.
In fact, I don't think there have been twin storms with winds over 115-120 kt in the satellite era. I know there have been twin cat 4's but not this high.

Also from what I have heard, they are working to evacuate Barbuda completely to Antigua today. The Irma debris may be in the ocean when this is over...

Jose looks very impressive. Just as much impressive as his big sister. Jose is taking a run for Cat 5 status. WOW!! Incredible what is happening out there in the Atlantic basin right now.

Don't know why there is no HDOB data right now, perhaps due to communication issues.
New vortex indicates Jose is still intensifying. Pressure down to 940mb.
