This will be the most impressive looking system to landfall on the US since Andrew IMO. I know there have been stronger but none of them have looked this good!

I made a 48hr loop of Harvey's evolution. Difficult to load, however.

My eyes are going crazy....it looks like it's creeping NE along the coastline.

Re: ATL: HARVEY - Hurricane - Discussion
I have a question or two..
1: Is harvey actually 'on land'
2: Is he expected to cross onto land or is he side skirting the coast
3: Is he still strengthening or he far enough on land that it'll start a weakening process..

Is there some attenuation going on on CRP's radar (e.g. why the eastern eyewall is not really visible)? Rare you get the liquid water contents high enough to attenuate S-band.

Seeing a Category 4 hurricane basically stall out literally miles away from the coast is giving me chills.

Apologies if someone has mentioned this previously, but it just occurred to me about the hundreds of wind turbines in the path of a cat 4 Harvey. I'm sure this storm has some turbine engineers' attention.

I am not a pro met but I have been through enough of these things to help a bit:
1. Not officially until the center point with the lowest pressure crosses over land.
2. Yes and no. Most forecasts have it coming ashore the key is how deep which is a wild card due to a lack of steering currents in the atmosphere to push the storm in any given direction.
3. Harvey could still intensify a bit more and believe it or not maintain major status for a while if it hugs the coastline. Until the eye moves completely inland, the storm could hold together pretty well as it draws energy from the Gulf of Mexico.
Hope that helps.

The hurricane expert on TWC said the western eyewall is affecting radar returns from the east side.

I smell "engineering fail" in the near future.

Last recon reported a closed eyewall. Radar showing an open spot on eastern side. That's not really open. It's radar being attenuated from the beam passing through the western eyewall.

Brownsville radar still shows the eye pretty well.
