Crazy. GCANE showed that bubble/waves of heat and moisture merging over the area via a feder band. Again, Day 2. Major city. This isn't the last of the threats. If you feel threatened get out and get to higher ground. Water can come up super quick. And at 9" an hour....

This always happens. I wonder when this stops being a way people die.

I remember so many times at night in the car with my parents growing up, seeing the reflection of the water ripples visible as the only thing in the blackness ahead. My parents always would turn around. It's just impossible to know how deep it is.

Are those 10" in 90 minute totals accurate? If so Houston is in huge danger tonight the way these bands are setting up. The short term models really nailed this during the day today. I bet a lot of people got out to go to places to watch the fight too. They will be going home at the worst possible time!

What is so strange, just a few minutes away from all the disaster, we have had very little rain since earlier today. I live mid-island by the Seawall in Galveston. My place is very prone to flooding and so far it did flood once but we were able to clean it up. Its all dry and clean now. Very scared for family in Houston. And they were the ones who wanted us to stay with them! I keep watching our little area go between terrible bands - its very very weird.

Unfortunately, it appears the HRRR is verifying with the first main feeder band merging with a second one that has been developing. It dumps an addition 15” over Houston the next 18 hours and still heavy rain at hour 18.

I sure hope nobody went out, as of this hour their chances of getting home are slim. Take a look at Google Maps, half the county is impassable.

There are tons of incidents being reported on police and fire radio, and emergency responders are unable to make it to the locations.

If Harvey does reemerge in the Gulf and reorganize a little, that will just be even more disastrous for the Texas coast.

Anyone on here north of Houston around The Woodlands? My family there says they are fine, but what I see on radar looks very intense.

The northeast end of Waller county has already gotten 12 inches of rain, a lot of flooded roads and quite a few people have taken water damage in their homes, either to flooding or roof leaks.

Seems like the rain on this end of the county won't stop!

I'm really having trouble understanding the magnitude of these precipitation numbers. Is the entirety of the houston metro area just going to be... underwater?

We have family and friends up there as well and they say they had some hail/rain but not bad.... but we have other family members in Katy and Conroe who are not online for the last couple of hours. I worry too about a horse rescue I have worked with in Hitchcock. This has got to be so tough on them. I know we are supposed to get womped in a few hours...I am grateful to be dry now but a bit scared.

Is that forecast at this point at all? Last I heard was it would head north maybe toward Columbus, so well west of Houston. That would put Houston on the wet side of the storm.

TV news (Channel 2 Houston, NBC affiliate) just confirmed 5" per hour rain rate in Friendswood (southeast of Houston).

Thank you for the information! I have a friend in Katy. The last I heard, which was late this afternoon, they were doing fine, no flooding or power outage at that time. Stay safe!

Sorry - I don't recall what the exact words were, but on KHOU local news, the only mention of the woodlands that I heard was with regards to flooding, that they were doing OK. There was some concern about letting water out of Lake Conroe, however. I have not heard any more since.
