I will say again...
Water is scarce or GONE. While YOU can. Save the bottles you drink from. Wash, fill and bottles you drink from wash, fill and reeze. Gallon or half gallon bottles wash fill and freeze. Gallon, quart, or sandwich bags fill and freeze. You could fill the quart or small ones fill with gator aide/power aide and freeze. You will need the electrolytes. This is a great source of cold water or other.b there are lots of bottles of tea and juice still in stores. Freeze them. Great source of water. Also some calories. Any one else that has suggestions please let me know

Hi!
Lurker here, any idea what Polk county can expect from Irma? I'm trying to convince my husband to leave. We have a two year old and I feel very vulnerable with her... any idea where we might go? I was going to book flights into atl last night but he said we may get stuck up there? Thanks in advance!!! Stay safe everyone!

Based on the model, Its likely a long drive to anywhere outside of the cone -- but where would be a reasonable place to hold up for a few days be? Anyone booked hotel rooms recently and where might there be availability?
My suggestion would be maybe try Mobile, AL, or points west of there.

Wow, Irma is really taking back her Western half. Not super great for anyone in the remaining path.

in west sunrise - scared to think of this now, what do i do with family? shutter up and hope for best, or try to leave and potentially get stuck on turnpike somewhere in middle of florida with no gas! or wait a day or 2 and see how confident east side of florida track is and hopefully drive to west coast place somewhere?

Correct if I'm wrong, but does that show her core has pushed up into the troposphere?

Shutter up regardless of if you stay or go. Make evacuation plans tonight so if you need to execute them tomorrow. Don't wait until Friday. You will be miserable if you evacuate on Friday.

If they can't travel very far, which will be the case for many people, at least get inland. A few miles inland on the ground floor in a well-built building is better than being right on the coast. The farther north they go, the better. Anywhere on the FL peninsula might experience power outages, so that may be worth considering also.

Wish I knew how to advise you, but I will say this. You can lose power even in just tropical storm force winds. Not sure what you are expecting there wind wise, but having no power is no fun, especially with a little one. Listen to your local authorities and do as they say. Good luck to you and stay safe.

I never thought I would see a storm of this strength and intensity maintain itself for so long in the Atlantic. And there's absolutely no sign that this is weakening or any reason to think it will weaken soon. Unreal.

I know Rita was T7.5, and Wilma was adjusted to 7.5 (6.5 operationally due to handling of pinhole).
