If it does move more east out in the the water it looks like it's ready to fire up again. Looks like its trying right now, but still too much of the center on land for it to really start building again.

9:43a - Colorado River at La Grange now forecast to crest around 54 feet. This is the highest level since 1935.

unless it keeps rainning.. probably going to break that record..

Many of the largest floods on the lower Colorado actually originated from the middle basin/Hill Country upstream of Austin where the watershed widens considerably and water runs off very quickly. Lake Travis and the other Highland Lakes help control those now. December 1913 is really the only of the top events that originated from the downstream areas like this.

That's what I think too. I wouldn't be surprised if it bumps up at least another 15mph over water in that time..

I'm no pro, but the radar and infrared seem to be spinning in different locations. I suspect this will impede redevelopment.

Houston mayor just said they weren't in the direct path otherwise they would have called for evacuations.

They were near the middle of the cone, which encompasses where the storm center could hit either left, right, or center.

There are in excess of 100 critical rescue calls in Houston alone right now.

Is there an interactive map anywhere to help me locate a specific location in Houston that may or may not be inundated with water?

It's slightly south and west of Houston proper.

Looks like the center is right on the coast and looking better by the hour. IMO

Any news on when the Red Cross is going to start sending teams in? I know they are operating shelters, of course. As far as I can tell it depends on when it's safe for relatively unskilled volunteers to respond, which as of now probably depends on the nature of the flooding?

Another question: CNN is reporting that they are deliberately opening up some dams, to let the floodwater through. What's the benefit of that, as opposed to keeping them up and hoping they hold?

Yes. It's pretty easy to pick out on visible sat loop, too. Right there in coastal waters.

Total failure of said dam.

sorry to hear this and hope your house isn't flooded too badly good to hear your safe though but for future if ever needed, for remote camera via WiFi is to have power to your modem/cams via marine batteries, inverter set up - due to Belize's not so reliable elec supply, some ppl have this set up here for laptop and security cameras in event of power out. Wireless cameras are no good for security when power goes out and that is normally when you need them more.

The benefit is that they dont get over topped. Many of the dams in TX are in great need of repair and are entering the end of life time span they were originally built for. I would guess several of those dams are being really stressed by holding so much more water than normal.

Put it this way, flood people out of the homes by opening the dams or completely submerge downtown Houston by keeping them closed.

According to this, rotation is picking up a bit.
A precursor to a strengthening system.
It can lead to convection picking up which would be the next step.

On another forum they are saying some of these dams are among the top WORST ONES in need of repairs in the country, according to Army Corps of Engineers.

MORE infrastructure failure that will cost - hopefully only property, not lives.
