Harvey sucks. I am not in a flood area, but got 3 feet of water. It just kept raining and raining, and raining, and raining. You get the picture. Most epople in our neightborhood seem to have not had flood insurance and were told they did not need it. This neighborhood is a wreck. got insurance adjusters out today, life is getting better. House is gutted for the most part. took 6 days or so to finally get all the water out of here.

According to the NWS, Harvey is now offically the wettest tropical cyclone in the US. Nederland, Texas registered 64.58 inches of rain, 12 inches higher then the previous record!

Some of the LCH totals are mindwarping. The swath of 50"+ was probably actually modestly big if you can believe that. There isn't a whole lot between Houston and Beaumont, so there isn't much ground truth, but that was probably the 50" corridor, beginning in eastern Harris and northeastern Galveston counties and extending through much of Chambers, Liberty, Jefferson, and Orange counties. The 60"+ totals look about where that MCV went nuts during one of the overnight periods.

ABC 13 meteorologist Tim Heller (@HellerWeather) tweeted out a FEMA info graphic that says 19 trillion gallons of rain fell from Hurricane Harvey. FEMA also says 80,000 homes had 18-inches of water or more in them.

One year later, watching all these storms in the Atlantic, I decided to check my notifications. I realized there were several, but had not noticed for a year. Unfortunately, I ended up with 3" of water (yes I should have brought more dirt in when I built my house 20 years ago, and yes I should not have canceled flood insurance after Rita/Ike/Allison did not come close to touching my house). Just the last several months are we returning to normal and not losing things. I wish the Carolinas, Virginia, South Texas, Mexico, Guadaloupe (a very nice island), the Leewards, wherever any storms may go the best, and I will pray for all, every time I am aware. Our pastor (a good Baptist, albeit from Auburn) allowed us to stay with his family for 10 days (would have been more but we were ready to start living on the second floor). Wind is better than flooding water. I pray for all hurricane victims everywhere.

Rita and Ike were nothing. Harvey was a bear.
