A station in the town of Nagapattinam reported sustained winds of 54kts @ 21Z (2:30am IST).

Adiramapattinam is recording sustained Category 1 winds (60 kt). The site is currently close to the SW-eyewall of Gaja. It has also recorded a 1006 mb pressure but I'm not sure this is valid given the strong winds and proximity to the centre...

JTWC had Gaja at 75 knots when it made landfall. That intensity seems a little more reasonable judging by the reports (might have been a little stronger).

SATCON is sitting between 85-90 kt, which looks reasonable based on radar presentation.

Latest I could find is 28 dead in Tamil Nadu. That's fairly high given that it's still less than 24hrs since landfall occurred.

The remnants of Gaja are now located over the SW Arabian Sea, E/SE of Socotra. Won't be around anymore for too long though.
