Can’t tell you how many people up here kept discrediting Sandy based on the fact that it went from a category two, down to a category one/extra tropical system and wrote it off, only to be surprised when their homes were completely flooded out and without power for weeks. Don’t use wind speed as a measurement for storm intensity or destructive power. M

Really the big impact is Florence is in no hurry to move along. That's going to be the biggest factor to the damage that will start piling up.

I am afraid it is. Deep convection has just about completed wrapping back around the eyewall per radar and satellite imagery and pressure continues to fall.

Look at all tilts. Sampling between 10kft on a half degree tilt on the northern edge of the slot and over 40kft with a 3.1degree tilt on the south end.

What does this indicate?

The Gulf Stream is working its mojo again unfortunately. Florence sure looks like she is going through an intensification phase right now!

Winds back to 105 mph in the latest update. Although I do think it was a category 1 for a while earlier today.

Luckily it won't have too much time unless it stalls completely.

I will be very interested to see how surge ends up west of topsail. Much of the area west of Morehead would have had offshore all day and will for a while longer. Sure winds will shift eventually and they will have surge. But it will mitigate it some I think. The angle for surge as it approaches the coast is best from topsail east. Surge isn’t just onshore flow...the stalling and slight weakening, while it will not drop the surge a huge amount, should help

If it wraps around a recon finds higher rather than lower winds...then I might believe it still can strengthen. She has been blowing up cloud tops all day and if it werent for recon sampling her, you would almost be certain she is getting stronger....yet she keeps weakening consistently. You can see that still in the new recon below my post. :darrow:
