They are in there now. I believe they said this might be their last flight.
A quote I saw earlier said it might be the final flight for Gonzo, the NOAA Gulfstream that flies at high altitudes around the storm to get atmospheric data. The Air Force Hercules planes that fly through the eye and get center fixes / min pressures should continue to fly as long as the center of the storm stays offshore. The recon plan issued today has them out there until the very early morning on Saturday, but obviously that can change based on the Florence's movement.

Seems like it's trying to make its third(and final) run to major right now. Anyone know how many hours it's estimated to have over sea?

She could be about to bust out a big eye. Looking very good on IR. And the inner eye appears to be collapsing and the outer eye taking over on radar. Watch out!

Vis was quite nice at sunset so I made a quick gif. Sun is setting a lot of live cams have gone down. Power/internet are likely going out.

It's pressure is dropping, but is there any sign of the winds increasing?

Once again, Highway 12 on Hatteras Island is closed until further notice. Roads and bridges will have to be cleared, inspected and repaired before we can reopen the highway. (link: https://bit.ly/2Qt2AOl) bit.ly/2Qt2AOl

Re: ATL: FLORENCE - Hurricane - Discussion
Well she may not be a major but she's no partially evaporated halfcane-not yet, anyway. Coastal Carolina (both) is in for one heck of a pounding overnight. Each storm is unique in its impacts and I suspect Florence will be a little more "unique" than most. I don't think the sheer extended duration of surge, waves, wind (even if no stronger than low-end Cat 2 sustained) and rain has been seen in any recent comparable storms to affect this area - Fran, Floyd, Isabel, Irene, etc.
There's a particular clip of video of a barrier island stilt house in coastal NC collapsing into the surf caused by 1994's Hurricane Gordon. I thought that footage was very impressive when I saw it as a kid, and was sure Gordon must have made landfall there as a strong hurricane. Only much later did I learn that that particular Gordon was a Cat. 1 (still very deadly in Haiti, and surprising it wasn't retired then) that missed the CONUS entirely, and that particular house was already condemned due to damage from a previous hurricane.
I suspect we will see many more of those sort of beachfront houses lost to Florence simply due to the extended battering from waves on top of surge.

I can pick out a very slight uptick between recon passes, but not much so far.

that pressure drop isn't really meaningful relative to the size of the storm
