WOWWW :double: :double:

That's an increase from 100 knots to 140 knots in what ... 12 hours??

And also, technically this makes September 2019 a month with 2 category 5's ... brings back memories of a certain recent season where 2 category 5's formed in September ...

It's passed T7.0 with that look now. I'd be willing to up it to 145 kt at the advisory personally.

Just minding my own business checking the Wikipedia page for this season, looking at the summary at the bottom, and I say to myself, "That's weird, they have Lorenzo as a Cat 5 ... (scrolls up) wait does that say 10:10 pm EST?!" :double:

Each frame looks better and better! I am truly stunned this became a Cat 5 where it did! :D

I'm quite surprised that they have decided to pull the trigger. Oh well...

Only thing about Isabel there was the eye wasn't as warm, but the cloud tops were colder. Not too dissimilar overall though.

Actually, Isabel's eye was much warmer, almost 20ºC.

http://tropic.ssec.wisc.edu/real-time/adt/archive2003/ISABEL-list.txt

Based on this Lorenzo actually has slightly colder avg tops right now

The actual intensity of Isabel should be near or above 160kt. I think Lorenzo is a marginal case for CAT5 at best

Lorenzo is still intensifying.

How much more stronger can he get? I think he can get to at least 160 Kt before it is all said and done.

Did Lorenzo just broke the MPI? The SST at its location is barely 28C

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

What the actual hecking heck 2019. Bye Isabel/Hugo/Irma.

I thought the OHC here supported far under 140kt AND that weakening had started. Never in a billion years would I have believed this is a thing that's happening now, at that location, last week. Climatology is being hardcore chunked in the trash these last few years.

This is a place that should have a cat 5 on MS Paint maps I made when I was twelve, not on an actual Atlantic map. Suffice to say it's hard to believe this is a thing that's happening  The second half of this decade is kicking itself into overdrive and making up for the first half in high end intensity I swear

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Wasn’t Isabel a Cat 5 over 27.5-28C waters?

Me either. I stated earlier in the week on this thread that he had a good shot at achieiving history out in the Far Eastern Tropical Atlantic basin.

He has indeed!! An increfible ttopical cyclone! I still maintain he msy have reached Cat 5 intensity back on Thursday night. So, he has had 2 rapid intensification cycles in the past 48 hours!
Simply amazing!
