I've never seen this before, WOW. a 185mph storm as a 1,371 damage multiplier over a 75MPH storm

Its some sort of solar maximum/minumum going on.. Its well documented via Nasa

I am wondering if the unfolding grand solar minimum and the documented increase in cosmic rays has something to do with it. We certainly saw some monsters during the mini ice age. Just ask the Spanish fleet.

Crazy, but a bit suspect initially considering they misspelled category.

What a monster storm. Prayers out to everyone in the Bahamas that Dorian spares the lives of all.

If you think that's impressive, consider that damage is maximized during extreme gusts, which are exceeding 220mph in this case according to NHC.

Do not bet the ranch based on any non-official forecasts that may appear in the post above no matter how strongly argued they may be, because the fates are capricious and have Murphy's Law on speed-dial.

Ha, good catch- - however- weather.gov is the source, so I suppose it should have some credibility...

Watching the progress of Dorian, is like watching a tree grow, it is agonizingly slow, which raises my concern for the well being of those in the path of this cyclone.

It's just a simple calculation of the kinetic energy of the wind, which increases with the square of windspeed. Nothing suspect about it.

The eye is directly over Marsh Harbor now. Land interaction should induce some weakening

Is Acabo big/high enough to induce weakening?

Minimum. And the solar minimum could extend for a decade, NASA scientists are unsure but there are historical comparisons yet very little work on the impact on hurricane climatology relating to that.

There is a tragic disaster unfolding on the tiny island of Abaco. If you pray, pray for these people. They need every single one.

Thank you, stay safe

I am just an amateur and a "noob" at that so any speculations that I have made are just that, uneducated speculations. Please refer to the NHC for accurate information.
Thank you all for your thoughts, I've loved reading through this community since '06 and finally decided to post more actively.
