What a monster. Is this the strongest landfalling Atlantic hurricane in terms of sustained winds? Or did the 1935 Labor Day hurricane also have 185 mph at landfall?

Its a wobble. You need at least a couple of hours to establish a trend. Storms are even more inclined to wobble near islands. I've seen them do that many times

Depends on how fast it moves. Don't expect any major structrual damage but should at least halt strengthening

They both had 185. I have heard it is possible 35 had stronger winds but 185 is the confirmed anyway.

it's a wobble...maybe an eye wall replacement?

I get that it's easy to see it heading north if that's what you wanna see...but it's a wobble

Imagine if you were in the middle of the eye of this thing when it stalled...that would make a person go nuts.

This fooled me too, optical illusion, look at the closeup visible. It's the sun angle making the eye look smaller.

Labor Day was supposedly 185 at landfall. Obviously instruments weren't as reliable back then, but that has been the consensus. So Dorian ties that records. Although with the SFMR data showing 193 mph at landfall and the land-based data not available yet we may see a post-season increase.

I wanted to say I really appreciate a lot of you here who aren't afraid to give their input on Dorian even if it ends up being wrong. I can see why some would be afraid to say anything in fear of being wrong especially with a storm this tricky. Just wanted to say thank you for your input, especially you Aric lol I've been on this board since 2009 and I always love seeing your opinion on these storms and what they might do.

Didn't the 1935 storm have a sub 900 pressure? If so that one is still on its own unique footing but this one is close. Very high end and thankfully rare event.
