Maybe I'm getting old and forgetful but this is getting quite disturbing, especially while the Bahamas are still being decimated by this hurricane that refuses to move an inch.

Word. It’s insane. Unimaginable. Peace up to the Kingdom. Gonna be a while more. Unfortunately, blacks and whites are showing up on radar so overnight intensification is en route. Looks like maybe Dorian is wanting to budge out of that cape and maybe drift a hair NNW?

That infrared is very misleading, look at actual radar. The inner eye has been choked off but remains on IR, just weakening and wobbling within the outer eye, which is where you see the convection fired around.

Weird how it still looks pretty good on IR satellite tonight but radar paints a different picture.

It’s not misleading. It’s the temperature of those cloud tops. And as those bands intensify overnight, you know they are bringing the juice. It doesn’t have to be inner eyewall to continue wrecking.

I’m wondering if the radar isn’t penetrating all the way through to the south. Even if it’s not all rain, it’s going to be nearly constant gale++

Crazy! This is remarkable considering how far away it is...I know am coming to realize why my family insisted on helping us with a generator as were a bit less than 50 miles inland. I honestly figured we'd have no issues given most recent updates, but I'm also new here

Yeah, been struggling with this for awhile. We're looking at doppler echos on radar that are approx. 15,000ft plus on the Miami radar and the organization has gone to hell tonight.
At the same time, the sat IR has wobbled, filled and spun around in the same spot while continuing to generate a broader range of cold cloud tops that looks like a better storm than we've seen in awhile.
I don't know what to think at this point but the sat ir presentation is getting quite a bit larger while our Bahamian neighbors are being pounded.
When will this mass start moving?
Never seen this before...

As the system weakens its angular momentum destabilizes so there will be more areas of heavy convection and areas of subsidence. It will shoot up some heavy convection, but it won't organize it or mix it in as it continues to fall apart. Upwelling and land interaction have really taken its toll even though upper atmospheric conditions are otherwise ideal.

Hey fellow weather geeks I got on a flight to Reno with my dog Jackson.

Time to prospect for a little gold since Dorian thankfully is making the turn and the wind speed is decreasing. Honestly I came within minutes of heading to Florida to catch what I was convinced was going to be a Cat 5 south of Cocoa Beach.

I know Dorian is going to cause a lot of grief as he sweeps up the coast. I don’t chase what I call a “dirty storm”. The kind that flood everything and just have enough wind to knock things down. If I was there I’d be chain-sawing like nobody’s business.

My hat is off to all of you... because like me you were on this forum every minute possible. You all did a great job.

The NHC nailed that turn. Gold Stars to that entire team.

And finally thanks storm2k for the best site bar none for excellent and timely updates.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

At the very least it appears to be moving more than it did all day yesterday. I agree it appears to finally slowly beginning to move N.

Dorian is behaving unfortunately like the movie " Groundhog Day".

Haven't we seen this before with the eyewall sitting over the same area this time yesterday?

NEVER NEVER EVER have I seen a storm sit for so long in the same area, let alone a recorrd setting, powerful Cat 5 tropical cyclone, and still a major Cat 3 as of right now.

This historic cyclone Dorian continues his history of going against what was initially forecasted for him to do all throughout its whole lifespan. Talk about a storm with a mind of his own!!! No doubt about.it!

I remember Hurricane Elena in 1985 , which was stalled out in the Northeast GOM for a long time, before finally moving west/northwest to impact the panhamdle and N CENTRAL Gulf region.

But this situation with Dorian is just unprecedented :double:

My continual prayers for the people of the Island nation.of the Bahamas concerrning this unimaginable catastrophic event, which is still ongoing!! :( :( :( :(

Wind speeds going down pressure going up at the C-MAN station on the west end of Grand Bahama. Another sign Dorian on the move.

I think the forecasts with Dorian have been very good post-Caribbean. He's maybe 50-60 miles off from where he was projected to be in the NHC forecasts from 72-plus hours ago.
