If you legit eat your hat and post a verifiable video of it, I will legit buy you a new hat up to $20 in value. Dorian has so far refused to make landfall in the US. I think it continues to refuse.

Based on radar the absolute center is going to slide just southeast by 5 miles or so, but the whole cape is in the eye so...

Don't forget the satellite parallax effect, radar shows center just south of landfall

This post was probably an opinion of mine, and in no way is official. Please refer to http://www.hurricanes.gov for official tropical analysis and advisories.

Eyewall sweeping the coast but I guess there's no landfall. The absolute center is off the coast

Looks like Dorian’s impact on NC maybe worse than Matthew

...DORIAN MAKES LANDFALL OVER CAPE HATTERAS...
Surface and radar data indicate that the center of Hurricane Dorian
made landfall at 835 AM EDT (1235 UTC) over Cape Hatteras, North
Carolina. Maximum sustained winds were near 90 mph (150 km/h) with
a minimum central pressure of 956 mb...28.23 inches.
Hats off the menu.

I don't know, the center may have stayed offshore by about 100 ft...

It feels almost like the goal is to maximize damage while maintaining its own health

NHC says landfall, but it looks like a very marginal case

Outer Banks being hit with a ton of surge, record flooding in progress.

the IR and other loops make the case a lot stronger than radar, I am fine with it being classified a landfall, sure it doesn't make a difference to those people who went thru the eyewall right now

Just like Jon Snow..."I know nothing" except what I know, and most of what I know is gathered by the fine people of the NHC

NHC forecasted track of Dorian was right on as usual.

So interesting that "parallax" effect. The infrared looks 100% like a landfall but the radar looks 100% like it didn't

Yea, makes sense because the geostationary satellite is viewing Dorian from an oblique angle: GOES-16 is at 0N and Dorian is at 35.4N. The parallax effect becomes more noticeable as the storm increases with latitude.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Pamlico Sound is 6 ft above neutral tide, well into the major flood range. Approaching the 6.38 ft historic crest.

Also interesting to see the water recede 1-2 feet in the 6 hours before the storm arrived. I didn't know storm surges did that.
