They'll be able to get some low-altitude passes in.
They have been sitting there for about an hour..
the western eyewall needs to be sampled before it comes ashore but since they have not taken off yet.. they might miss it.

Hanna has overachieved this morning. Blew my forecast strength out of the water. Hanna's large eye looks more like the eye of a hurricane after an eye wall replacement cycle. Y'all stay safe in Texas.....MGC

Eye warming fast
3 towers rotating on the west wall, looks like they won't obscure it.

Nice feeder band coming into Beaumont right now. Just measured a 35 mph gust.

I just saw that too! We'll see, like he said Cat 2 unlikely but not impossible. Also, Paul Goodloe mentioned the water temp is 89 degrees, the warmest he's ever waded in during an approaching tropical system!

Lots of hot towers firing in the western eyewall. This is deepening very quickly

TWC must be forgetting that Alex and Ike were both large hurricanes that deepened to a Cat 2 just before landfall.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Is the coastline just oriented to cause more favorable frictional effects, or do storms landfalling in this area tend to pull in moisture from more favorable sources than the northern gulf coast? Or am I just succumbing to selection bias?
Edit: should add alex 2010 and Claudette 2003 to that list
Must have something to do with things being bigger in Texas...hurricanes included.
This is the scientific answer I was looking for.

Hot towers firing on the western eyewall while the eye continues to warm. Definite YIKES moment.

That's a pretty cold-topped hot tower.
Going to heat the core quickly.
This may still pick up a bit more wind speed even after landfall.
