That’s a lot less intense than I thought. Still a ridiculous pressure gradient, and the strongest winds will likely be on the NE side.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Well this isn't bad news but don't forget Eta is still over water. Though that does prove Dvorak isn't everything.

Wow, still amazing but about 30mb off from the crazy monster I was expecting the plane to be intercepting.

Highest FL winds: 137kts (found on the Southern quadrant which hasn't been as sampled yet)
Highest SFMR winds: 130kts (Again on the Southern quadrant)

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

Not a single unflagged data set supports cat 5 lol. It obviously is, but still comical.

Winds are probably under 200 mph. Can go to bed now

Obviously a Cat 5 though.
I don't even think it's a Cat.5. SFMR was nowhere close. Maybe in a different quad they can find higher winds.
I think it's a 5 based on the pressure.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Well the CI and ADJ values from ADT are going to save it from total embarrassment.

If she's not a Cat 5 then this is the best imitation of one I have ever seen.

Again proves that to have a top-tier storm, an explicitly good eye temp is more important than any ridiculously cold cloud tops

If we assume a pressure around 924 mb (for missing the true center), that would suggest winds of about 140 kt.

Probably not even in the strong quad yet so let's not make a judgment yet.
Considering how tight the pressure gradient is, one mile missed could be a 5-10 mb difference. Still the tense level here really plummeted.

EXACTLY. Was just going to post this. Eye temp is everything. That orange eye didn't materialize fortunately.

I like how everyone is disappointed that a storm a day from hitting one of the most impoverished places in the Western hemisphere may not yet be a Cat 5 or is just barely one.
Including me.
