Unfortunately, I do not see this happening to spare The Big Easy of the brunt of the eyewall. They really are already in it now.

Wind and rain coming in here at Ocean Springs. Strong Gusts and plenty of sustained wind. We're less than 2 miles from the coast of the gulf with about 15 smaller bodies of water and a marina within that same distance. We're 14 feet above sea level with no signs of flooding as of yet. Suspect the next hour will be telling in SE MS

Way back it’s probably been stronger but I never looked at it. 70’s was the highest I remember but I was 1 for Betsy so maybe that might have been strongest in in my lifetime.

Betsy’s winds sure felt stronger to this (at the time) 5 year old. We were without power for 3 weeks, but those pralines my mom and great aunt made by the light of a kerosene lamp were the best. These are the strongest I’ve seen personally here since then, but we do evacuate when needed so i was physically here for that 2005 one. Picking up now every minute and rain is lateral.

I kind of tuned out the season and didn't even know there was a hurricane until late last night when I randomly checked in on the NOAA page. At that point they were saying maybe Cat 1 or weakening 2, now it blows up over night. Holy crap, this is scary, I hope everyone in the target zone has been paying attention, with all the insanity of 2020 and the virus and elections and such, I imagine a lot of people weren't paying much attention. Stay safe all.

Yeah. It's kicking up. Starting to get some gusts up around TS here in Mid-City. You can hear the howls from time to time, but it's more leaves than limbs so far. Bout to get real.

Also for the record, power blinked 3x and cable was momentarily lost. Bout to lose that all, but hopefully I'll still have phone service. Everybody be safe. This is going to affect lots of us up to the Atlantic Coast.

Biloxi is seeing some action now. Gusty winds with a lot of rain. Still have electric. Good luck to everyone in the path.

I've mentioned this before but if Zeta is upgraded, it would make 2020 the ONLY season to have THREE major hurricanes form after September 30. Even without an upgraded, we could grab that title with potential Major Eta.

This is very significant if it comes to fruition.

Yeah glad I rebuilt my beach house in Biloxi on 10 foot piling, now 28 feet asl... going to be interesting just how high the surge gets, 11 foot would cover most of HWY 90 in Hancock and Harrison county...

Lake Salvador south of the city is now entirely in the eye. Downtown New Orleans may achieve this same status soon...

I guess the silver lining here is that Zeta is moving quickly and NOLA won’t experience the peak winds for long.

Very very doubtful even if it were in a trapped bay the elevation surrounding it would only be a few feet above sea level

Tropical storm warning remains in effect for Atlanta. Looks like the flood threat may have come down a little, but the wind threat is way up. The Peachtree City NWS office is calling for wind gusts of 60-70 mph now. Tornado threat is up as well.

I doubt I'm getting much sleep tonight. My bedroom faces west, so I'm going to be hearing those east-side winds blasting at my wall come 2 AM or so.
