Unfortunately, I do not see this happening to spare The Big Easy of the brunt of the eyewall. They really are already in it now.

Way back it’s probably been stronger but I never looked at it. 70’s was the highest I remember but I was 1 for Betsy so maybe that might have been strongest in in my lifetime.

Betsy’s winds sure felt stronger to this (at the time) 5 year old. We were without power for 3 weeks, but those pralines my mom and great aunt made by the light of a kerosene lamp were the best. These are the strongest I’ve seen personally here since then, but we do evacuate when needed so i was physically here for that 2005 one. Picking up now every minute and rain is lateral.

Yeah. It's kicking up. Starting to get some gusts up around TS here in Mid-City. You can hear the howls from time to time, but it's more leaves than limbs so far. Bout to get real.
Also for the record, power blinked 3x and cable was momentarily lost. Bout to lose that all, but hopefully I'll still have phone service. Everybody be safe. This is going to affect lots of us up to the Atlantic Coast.

This is very significant if it comes to fruition.

Very very doubtful even if it were in a trapped bay the elevation surrounding it would only be a few feet above sea level

I think Betsy was stronger
