Maybe gaining a little Latitude but it’s hard to say with no true center.

People are really sleeping on this system right now, incredibly high THC content lies ahead of it, shear in the vicinity of the system is very low, and to my amateur eye it sure looks to be getting its act together

98L has all their attention. Probably because it has more of a chance to go towards the EC or Florida than 97L does.

A center looks to forming closer to 14.5N 72.5w which is a lot farther north than I thought it would be, Fla. peninsula could still be in play.

TCs often struggle there in late august as well (not west-carib).

Is it possible we could see PTC-13 either at 5pm or 11pm today?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

That might be possible too. since it would be within the time frame and it is more organized at this point than the models have been showing.

If 98L had been closer to the Lesser Antilles could potentially have had two PTCs at once, which I don't think has happened before

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

I wouldn’t doubt that happening in the next few weeks, when the Atlantic becomes most favorable and the wave train continues.

I'm not sure why the excitement around the "PTC" designation. All they are is a wave that's not a tropical cyclone yet, but is close enough to land and has a good enough chance to become a TC before affecting that land that NHC wants to initiate advisories before it technically becomes a tropical depression, so watches/warnings can be issued.

There are no particular requirements for strength or organization for PTC advisories to be initiated, other than NHC thinks it has a good enough chance to become a tropical cyclone and bring tropical storm/hurricane conditions to land within 36 hours.

Friendly reminder

Let us not forget the rules about decorum. No personal attacks. You don't have to agree with everything you see on here, but you do have to be respectful. So let's work on that so us mods/admins don't have to start giving out "vacations."

Would just be a neat statistical thing for two to be active at once since that designation is usually pretty brief, abitrary/location-based as it may be.

I have deleted some posts not in keeping with the spirit and decorum we ask for here at Storm 2k. Please cut the sniping back and forth and keep the discussions on weather.

97L looks like a sharp wave axis to me. Better chance of closing off in a day or two......MGC

We may get Laura and Marco within a day of each other, which one will develop first? I'm still thinking 98L will become Laura.
