JRD wrote:So, Epsilon is going to be a major hurricane, and it was a tropical storm just barely over half a day ago. Seems like a classic case of tropical rapid intensification. And once it turns extratropical, it's forecast to also undergo bombogenesis. Interesting to see both kinds of rapid deepening in a single cyclone.

Its lowest pressure may be a little ways away even after the winds come down. I know models bring it into the 920s after becoming ET.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

That could be what bumps it to 100 kt, even if it isn't a perfect measure.

That pressure of 953 mb (after adjustment) definitely suggests it is now a major in concert with other data.

I don't think that this was a gust, the North eyewall is known for stronger winds.

Nope, surface was 956. It just stopped reporting winds a little above there.

Definitely seems like a major to me. Could the NHC feel comfortable with another special advisory? Or maybe they just wait until 4

At this rate, Epsilon will be in the low 950s during the third pass, which looks like it’ll go through the NW quadrant again.

Derek was the first to call the GFS model-cane bogus. I’m sure he’s right again here!

Maybe the map glitched because of having 94L turn to 27 and then Epsilon in just hours, and then turning from a TS through Cat 1 and Cat 2 to soon a Cat 3 again in just hours, and overall in just 2 to 4 days.
