per radar it sure looks like the extreme northern edge of the center is kissing the GOM... but it will a few hours or so for the entire eye to get into the GOM

The low level vorticity is focusing to the north end of Cuba. If not then that is a crazy illusion on satellite.

No Bueno. Its hard to find reasons she won't bomb out in the GOM. I don't think anyone can forecast a TS or weak cat 1 anymore.

I don't know for sure but on long range radar the center of Laura almost looks closed, or close to it ..

It could indeed deepen really quickly as soon as it gets back over water like the Euro & GFS are now showing.

Just needs to get the poleward outflow channel going then it'll be all good for takeoff.

Looking pretty healthy for being so close to land for so long and then going over Cuba.

Houston to Lake Charles needs to be prepared for a cat 4 or cat 5 hurricane. this is really, really getting desperate

Looks like it's on a heading of around 300 degrees from that loop...

Something about the shape, once you take land outlines out of the picture really reminds me of a lot of W Pacific systems west of the Philippines--except this has a lot more water before reaching land.

400k in the Triangle, 225k in Lake Charles. (Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Lake Charles/Sulphur are the main cities).

500k in Lafayette metro but it's fairly sparsely populated between here and Lake Charles

A tad north maybe? Running more NW than WNW?

Yeah this is looking like one of those storms. If I lived anywhere along those areas I'd be gone today

Has anyone noticed that on the weather channel that they are talking more and more about this storm being potentially much more stronger than currently forecast? It seems like they are mentioning that more tonight compared to early in the day
