Super nice breeze and some nice gusts here in PC. Yesterday, no wind and a bunch of rain...today no rain and some nice gusts. I'll take the latter over the former any day.

I hear you on this. They did the same thing with Michael. Bottom line is even with all the fancy computers this thing is going to do what it wants.
Would much prefer a Cat 3 or lower. There is nothing but small towns on flat bayous out towards Sabine Pass. They do not need this.

Although I have been a hurricane forecaster since 1980 that only means I've been wrong lots of times.

Have been thinking Cat 4 for a day or so but there is a small part of me thinking Cat 5. Purely an educated guess. Michael surprised everyone and went Cat 5.
There is a garage at Christus Hospital on Calder.

Dry air itself is not an impediment without shear. Just look at EPAC systems in the past that developed into annular CAT4s under extremely dry environment.

May see a small jog west given how dominant the hot tower is now. lots of heating going on there = pressure

That is definitely a possibility. At this time anywhere from Galveston to Lake Charles is definitely in play.
Yea we are prepping I do not want to take any chances. Going to stay home as where I am at flooding is not an issue
Good luck wally.

I wouldn't want to get hit with this storm right now the way it looks, much less after another day of strengthening.

Looks like the southern eyewall is nearly close to closing off.
Worth noting that Michael in 2018 didn't get rid of its weaker E/SE eyewall until it got into the 100kt+ range, so that maybe the same with Laura.
Either way, its getting better and the CDO is likely to cover that large eye soon enough and probably start to contract it down. I don't know how much deepening there will be right now, but soon enough that presentation is going to bear fruit.

Wasn’t recon supposed to head out an hour ago? Or was it 3:30 EST instead of CDT?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

These most recent hot towers firing off have been impressive; so has the general uptick in convection over the past few hours. I'm curious to see what recon finds- I'd also suspect pressures in the mid to low 980's and winds around 75 kts.
