Wonder if this is a sign of things to come? As SAL and mid-level dry air don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. This storm definitely underperformed.

It's only July 23rd my friend. SAL is still typically in full play right now, typically. Plenty of time for it to subside like it normally does.

Excellent discussion at 11 tho. Probably overstating the current intensity a bit but emphasizes very uncertain future and the dry air causing a major impact despite other factors looking positive for 48 hours or so. I don't expect them to back off on forecast intensity immediately in one advisory as they don't like making rapid changes, understandably so.

Personally, I'm not sure if he has time to start from scratch; possible, completely absolutely, but likely? I dunno. Still overperformed by literally existing and gave us our July MDR storm so satisfying enough :ggreen:

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Operational intensities were way behind the eight-ball on both ramp-up and ramp-down of this cyclone. As per NHC's disclaimer in the forecast discussions, small storms are subject to quick changes in intensity in either direction.

If anything it’s the opposite, under a suppressive Kelvin wave, this storm over performed.

If eight tropical cyclones before the last week of July is underperforming I don't want to see what overperforming is like

Let's all remember the violent 2004 season didn't have its first tropical depression til a week from now (and the 1999 season of Bret, Floyd, and Lenny had nothing but a single high latitude baroclinic spawned system until August 18)

These small circulations can spin back up pretty quickly, I would still watch this very closely if I was in Barbados and the Windward Islands.

Sure. The fact it formed at all, and where it formed, is probably a sign of a very active season. So buckle up!

Here in Barbados we tend to mostly feel effects from storms that sneak up on us like Tomas haven’t really had any major impacts since then many Barbadians have a lackadaisical approach to hurricane preparedness, so far no one I have talked to has prepared as yet

I haven't seen it mentioned, but Gonzalo is the strongest storm of the season by wind speed.

Right now it looks like Gonzalo may want to get dressed to make a professional appearance, look like a last hope of revival.

And yet the NHC continues to forecast that Gonzalo will obtain hurricane status in less than 24hrs.

You guys are right, this storm has overachieved considering the suppressed Kelvin Wave. Just don’t know why the NHC hasn’t backed down significantly on intensity in its 11am forecast package. In my opinion chances this makes hurricane status are at 25% or less. If anything they seem to be playing catch-up.

This storm wasn't even on the models like 3 days ago lol. The fact it existed is an overperformance.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Fwew, Gonzalo is not looking good this morning. Bad news for it's future, good news for the Caribbean islands if it doesn't reorganize itself.
