Getting some good rain NW of Houston now. First heavy rain we've gotten.

Arguably this isn’t even a depression at this stage based on satellite and surface data. It certainly isn’t even close to 50 knots.

Wow it looks much worse than last night. You can easily see its circulation now, it's naked.

Convection firing in the NW quadrant this morning, still a sub 1000 mb TS but if it moves inland quickly that would help the flood forecasts.

Convection is back with the CoC right in the middle of it. Beta is an itty-bitty TS.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

One thing i've learned about storms this year is that naked swirls can generate convection quickly. I remember Isaias getting stripped naked once or twice and then just spawning an entire tropical storm's worth of thunderstorms in like an hour lol

The difference between Beta and Don is that the former has a large envelope of unstable airmass which will keep the system alive until landfall.

Doesn't look like a significant wind event for Texas. Heaviest rain totals may end up in SE LA. I measured 1.4" yesterday, enough to water my yard. Probably won't see much in Houston today, as we're in that dry slot. Maybe 3-6 inches tomorrow into Wednesday AM in some areas as the core moves by as a depression.

Beta passed right between two buoys in the past several hours. Peak winds observed were around 25 kts. Its TS winds don't cover a large area.

The bay house reservation I had on the western side of Galveston bay beginning this Tuesday was pushed back to a Friday check in. Person told me that some streets were already flooded in the area. Hopefully it clears out by then and I can get some fishing in...

So in layman's terms, sucking in dry air did Beta in.

Beta will be long gone by Friday. Water may be stirred up quite well by then.

It's a combination of dry air surrounding the center, preventing any inflow of moisture, and continued moderate shear.

Near Waller and getting pretty much nothing. Wind is light with really no gusts. I think tomorrow will be a better shot for rain here.
