Currently 17G28 from the NW, off the coast of Belize. Forecast to be roughly 30G39 for most of the week. All depending on how deep ETA dips her toes into CA before heading north.

Is ETA going through a big round of RI?

I should say. We'll see where it levels off, but this is probably ERI - explosively rapid intensification. (Is there a defined threshold for that, similar to the 30 kt/24 hr rate for regular RI?)

Eta currently resembles Maria when she just bombed out east of Dominica. I'd go with 140kt on the next recon pass.

I've made this post twice with Teddy and Delta, and both times the hurricane ceased intensification lol. Therefore, for the good of Central America, I'll make it one more time...

I always thought 2020 would have a Category 5 hurricane. It wouldn't make any sense for this year of all years to break the streak!

Raw T-numbers have reached 6.9 (in spite of the pinhole eye!). Raw T-numbers tend to precede the real intensity in rapidly intensifying systems; I believe Eta will explosively deepen to a Category 5 hurricane later today.

I didn't think Eta would have time to be a 5 earlier today. I definitely underestimated the explosiveness of the intensification that is happening right now. If it keeps this pace up we will probably have our 2nd November Cat 5 in recorded history.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.
