Has the Atlantic ever had a storm jump from Cat 2 to Cat 5? Maybe happen here folks if we can get some recon in a few hours.

Grounded with a maintenance issue. Hopefully taking off soon.

I thought that was the 15z/10am flight.

Possibly. The way I read the tweet posted in here sounded like the 17z was delayed as well. But maybe it was referring to the earlier flight.

They haven't put out their 1PM yet.

Normally, if something like this happens, there is a update on this.

Eye appears to be contracting on IR.
Very likely a pinhole now.
Very heavy lightning on the eyewall.
More pronounced gravity waves on the CDO.
I would put some money on it being a major at this point.

I knew there was lightning, but not that much, I'm betting 130-150 mph.

CMG?? ETA says it wants CDG. Definitely not on the thick side but trying to close off a tiny ring of it.

I doubt they would put out a special advisory without recon. Otherwise, NHC does not update intensity in real time. Next update will be out in 20 min or so

The pinhole eye is so small that its true eye temp may not ever resolve by satellite. We need to get a recon in there.

Windy.com Satellite is having trouble picking up the pinhole eye, it's at least 10 miles wide.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.
