Please don't compare this to Zeta! Zeta was a fast mover!

The thing about Zeta was that it came in moving SW to NE. Ida will be moving SE to NW which even if landfall is (like Zeta) over Terrebonne Parish, will funnel surge toward Lake Ponchartrain. Also, Zeta was strong but not strong enough to push surge deep inland to the US 90 corridor/communities like Houma and Morgan City. Might be a different story with Ida.

That’s terrible. So you weren’t able to leave? I’m just gobsmacked!

Not me personally. I saw this coming days ago. We filled up yesterday. But people have been desperately trying to find stations that have gas through face book all afternoon

Glad you’re out! I’ve never understood how folks could be so unprepared during hurricane season while living along the coast. Especially as we’re moving toward the heart of it. I wish you all the best. It is shaping up to be something else.

Thank god Sept1 will not be a landfalling Hurricane in South Florida. But you learn in storm centric areas that you get your gas first and fast. Food items are everywhere but gas is hoarded and you all should have been proactive. That being said South Florida is watching and we wish you all to be safe. This is real folks the NHC would not estimate that you could get anywhere from 120mph to 140mph if there was not a good chance that can happen and it will stay with you for a good long time.

Looks like a little dry slot is trying to get to the core but new towers going up will likely prevent it from hurting it too much.

Even though it isn't supposed to be anything close to what it is on the coast, it could be the most I've seen personally out of a tropical system since 2012 (when I lived somewhere very different).

Huge shift East on 0z icon. Landfall just east of Houma and tracking toward BR…not my fav3 model but, trends…

National Weather service is asking people of New Orleans to leave if they are able to.

Pressure holding steady for now. It may take another 5-6 hours for Ida to fully clear the effects of land interaction with Cuba.

It looks like there is a town in LA close to the coast called Waterproof that is directly in the current path. Yikes.

No mandatory evac. Insufficient time to evac. Gas shortage. Cat 4+ forecast. If there is a model shift to the east there will be catastrophic consequences. There would be people in cars stuck in traffic with storm on top of them. This sounds like a ridiculously implausible scenario but here we are.

It will re-energize but the trip across Cuba warmed the cloud tops significantly.

Recon has the center a bit farther west, at 23.0N 84.2W. That might make a slight difference, since it had been east of the track through landfall.

I am at a total loss for words...clearly flashbacks to summer(August) of 2005, in context of course, with obvious differences in 2021.
I fear the rest of the hurricane season '21.......

Will be interesting to see the models tomorrow to see if the models are shifting East or they will shift back a little each way up until landfall. As of right now I'm breathing a lot better than I was this morning. Even though that Spaghetti Model from the 1800Z tonight has me a little worried, but going by the NHC cone, I'm barely in it now.
