That was my point yesterday before Cuba LF and what it did, and explaining after Cuba it's gonna be the difference of winning off of a 1 dollar scratch off as to a 20 dollar chances are going to increase dramatically

This is the best I’ve seen Ida look so far, I think larger pressure drops are likely to start before the 11am advisory. Won’t be long before the posts suggesting a cat5 peak return.

Personally, I think this will peak at Laura’s winds and pressure, give or take 5kt and 2mb

Is this updated I just thought I read they ruled against it because of timing and lane reversals

If you look closely at the picture you can see how all the ditches are filled with water before the hurricane has even arrived.

I’m surprised that the NHC just increased Ida’s MSW to 75 kt at 12:00 UTC. FL winds and SFMR in the strongest quadrant only support 65–70 kt.

So we got no contraflow from a major city, late evacuation from same major city and its surrounding areas, a STRENGTHENING HURRICANE that hasn’t even reached the hottest part of the Gulf yet, and the same hurricane that continues to nudge further east of the model tracks and probably will continue to do so due to intensification up until landfall. This didn’t look good for NOLA from the jump, but it continues to look worse for them.

I have a bad feeling this will reach cat 5 later tonight. Prayers for those in its path. Glad to see people leaving NO. No way would I stay there, with or without mandatory evacuations.

I miss John Hope.

The current guys - mentioned above - are good, but John Hope was.....how do I phrase it? He was more like, "Down Home." Know what I mean? Spoke to you like you were the next door neighbor and he explained things in a way that was easy to understand.

The current mets are more - - clinical, is a good way to describe them. To me, anyways.

Convection continuing to wrap this AM with consistent convective bursts, and some signs of one commencing on the eastern side at the moment. No real response yet with winds/pressure but that seems like a matter of time given the structural improvements. Always tough to really predict intensity with systems like this, but I would say something like 1-1.5mb an hour drop over the next 36 hours seems very possible given the environmental conditions... which would result in a 930-950mb hurricane near the LA coast.

If there is any one thing holding this back right now, it’s the lack of symmetry in the wind field. The southwest half of the storm is much weaker than the northeast half. However, given how much it’s structure has improved over the last several hours, it seems that all it would need to even that out is a few stronger bursts in the eyewall

I live in Hattiesburg in SE Mississippi. I-59 runs through here from NOLA, so we get the evacuation traffic. Contra flow is built to come all the way to us before going back to regular flow. Traffic is bumper to bumper on the northbound side of the interstate. It’s an absolute shame Louisiana didn’t implement contraflow and use the infrastructure that is designed for THIS PURPOSE!

OMG.

Yes, I just heard the authorities say (on a clip run on TWC) that NOLA authorities said "We cannot order a mandatory evacuation. There's not enough time....."

So folks WILL NOT leave. And was said, they are NOT opening contraflow lanes on the highways. This will be very bad.

WHY is it so hard for those tasked with getting these things right so HARD to get it right?!?!??!

I expect nothing less.
I just hope these people can get out of here before it’s too late and they’re stuck.
